Athlete of the Month: Alex Scales ’18

This week, The Bell Online nominates Alex Scales ’18 as Athlete of the Month. Alex is currently a senior at Bellarmine who is well known for his excellence in cross country and track and field. Over the course of his Bellarmine career, Alex has broken several records. Last April, Scales and three other Bells (Meika Beaudoin-Rousseau ‘18, Ben Micallef ‘17, and Tommy Rocha ‘17) set a Distance Medley Relay Record of 10:03.67 at the Penn Invitational in Philadelphia. Other impressive performances include an 800m run clocking at 1:50.64 and spectacular 1600m/1 mile times of 4:13.39/4.14.78. In the 2017 cross country season, Alex has a personal best of 15:14.10 in the 5K run.

This past weekend, Scales ’18 participated in the CCS championships at Toro Park. He finished 4th overall in the race which contributed to the win over Los Altos, Palo Alto High and etc, giving Bellarmine another CCS D1 Champions. All of these accolades have led to an offer by the University of Colorado for Scales to participate in their cross country and track and field programs. Alex has accepted the offer and will be attending the University of Colorado next year.
