Spring Band Solo and Ensemble Concert

By Michael Ahn ’22

On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, Bellarmine’s music program hosted its Solo and Ensemble concert. Held in the Sobrato theater, the afternoon concert ran from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm.

As usual, a variety of ensembles and soloists performed (you can see the full list pictured above), including musicians from Notre Dame.

The performances of the concert were spectacular. While each performing group featured different pieces of varying genres, each ensemble/soloist offered a rich musical experience.

Here is how Max Amend ’22, principal violist for the Bellarmine Chamber Orchestra feels about its performance,

“One thing is practicing, but another is performing. There is a certain feeling of accomplishment after a great performance so when you step out on the stage, you just feel as if you have it, mainly because you do, due to the extensive hours of practice put into each piece you perform. You just put your faith into your practice and it always works out. It sure did at the Solo Concert!” he said.

Notably, this was only the second concert for the Bellarmine Chamber Orchestra (BCO). Although they debuted in November 2018, the BCO is still a fairly new and growing ensemble group.

Max elaborated on what it felt like to be a member of the Bellarmine Chamber Orchestra.

“I like being part of something new and something that can grow. I look forward to seeing where the orchestra goes during my four years here,” he said.

Furthermore, Max explained how he felt about the other ensemble and solo groups that performed along with the BCO throughout the evening,

“It is great to be a part of such a strong music program under such great leadership. Once I was done performing, being able to sit and watch the other groups gave me insight into the ways they hone their musical abilities and also was a great showcase of hard work,” he said.

Overall, this year’s Solo and Ensemble seemed to have been a success for both the audiences and the performers themselves. The next concert, the annual Spring Concert, is expected to be held on May 1st, 2019.
